Popeye was on to something with all that spinach he ate. As a super food, spinach is just one of several options out there. Many fruits and vegetables are considered super foods because they are high in antioxidants, which can reduce the risk of disease, are filled with different vitamins and minerals, and are low in calories. The trouble is, most people don’t eat enough super foods. On the contrary, many of us maintain a diet that is carb-rich and veggie-poor. 

So how can we change that? Rome wasn’t built in a day and a diet that is chock full of super foods won’t happen overnight either. And that’s okay, but we’d like to help get you started moving in the right direction first thing in the morning with a green smoothie. They’re easy to make with virtually no preparation time needed. Here’s a simple one – all you’ll need is four ingredients and a blender. 

 

Winter Green Smoothie

- 2 cups of organic frozen berries (any kind) 

- 2 cups of fresh spinach 

- 2 cups of water

- 1/4 inch fresh ginger root

 

Blend and enjoy! Makes 2 quarts
