On this, a day that is filled with love, we’ve been thinking about the postures that quite literally affect our heart. Like Camel.
As the biggest backward bend of the series, Camel forces us to drop our head below our heart – something we aren’t used to doing – which is why a number of sensations can come up. We’re vulnerable in this position. Our hearts are open. That’s also why it’s associated with love and inner emotions.
Sometimes we come out of the posture and feel dizzy. Sometimes nauseous. Or maybe you might find yourself tear up out of nowhere. It’s not a coincidence that when we open our hearts in class, we are subject to the same effects as when we open our hearts up to another person.
So embrace it. Although Camel may not be easy, the flush of emotions afterwards will make it worth it. Because just as life – and love – can throw us challenges, once we accept them we become that much stronger.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
