The benefits of Bikram or many other forms of yoga have been practiced for years, and for good reason. People continue to practice Bikram yoga to help their body and mind find relief, rejuvenation, and re-centering.
Widespread research has not been conducted on the practice of Bikram yoga, but acute research has found that hot yoga has many physiological benefits, including relief from back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and osteoarthritis pain. Some studies also found that people who practiced Bikram yoga regularly developed a greater lung capacity, wider range of motion, increased balance, endurance, and muscle strength, and healthier-looking skin. It should be noted that everyone will respond to their Bikram yoga practice differently. Some will notice fewer infections and colds while others will experience less joint pain or increased flexibility.
Bikram yoga has been said to help with depression, attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Some proponents of Bikram yoga and other forms of yoga claim that the practice can balance chemicals in the brain and lead to a release of serotonin and other mood-boosting chemicals. No studies have been done to corroborate this belief. However, many studies have been conducted on the effects of exercise on the brain in general and findings show there is a positive correlation.
