A Beginner's Guide to Hot Yoga

Last updated 6 years ago

Yoga is a practice that is designed to connect your mind, body, and soul. Bikram yoga, or hot yoga, is one of the many sects of yoga that is designed to reduce stress, increase the circulation of the blood, and make you feel better overall.

 Hot Yoga

In Bikram yoga, students move through a series of 26 poses that are designed to increase muscle tone, improve posture, and revitalize the complexion. What makes hot yoga unique is that it is practiced in a room with a thermostat set to 105 degrees. The heat and the poses make the muscles warmer, which lets you perform deeper stretches without the risk of injury.

 Breathing Exercises

Many cardiovascular and nervous system disorders would be greatly reduced, and maybe even disappear completely, if you were to utilize your entire respiratory system. Yoga breathing teaches you how to combine your abdominal and chest breaths to increase lung capacity, reduce anxiety, increase the abilities of the immune system, and get you one step closer to mental and spiritual balance.

 Fun and Challenging Poses

The 26 poses used in hot yoga are designed to increase blood circulation so oxygen reaches every part of the body. Students start with breathing and stretching poses like Standing Deep Breathing to get the oxygen moving properly. Bikram yoga then moves through a series of poses like Hands to Feet, Awkward Pose, Balancing Stick, Triangle Pose, and Tree Pose, all of which warm your muscles. Since the difficulty of the poses range from beginner to advanced, everyone can enjoy the benefits of hot yoga.
